External shade blinds create a comfortable outdoor area in any season. Whether you want to stay cool on hot summer days, trap the heat in the cooler months, or simply create a barrier to protect you from insects and inclement weather.
Importantly, these all weather blinds help minimise your reliance on heating and cooling by helping maintain a comfortable temperature in the sectioned off area. This means that you can reduce your energy consumption whilst helping the environment.
The fastener is welded onto the fabric and fed into the side rails, allowing it to be securely guided up and down in operation. This unique fastening system provides the stability and protection needed in alfresco blinds.
The hidden lock function creates no gap between the fabric screen, side channels and a secure guided movement that won’t blow out in the wind.
There are five standard colours available for the fittings:

Monash University conducted a wind tunnel test in 2023 on a 2.4m x 2.4m Zipscreen Blind and it withstood the maximum achievable wind speed of 140km/h**. Click here
**Even with these impressive results, it is always recommended to raise your Zipscreen shades when the wind exceeds 50km/hr.
All external blinds, including ZipScreen are not designed to endure very heavy winds. We recommend blinds to be drawn and secured during heavy winds and storms.
We recommend regular cleaning (at least every 3 months) to ensure surfaces are free from dirt, dust and grime.
Use a soft brush to clean the blind, paying particular attention along the side channels to prevent dust and dirt build.
Aluminum extrusions can be cleaned with a soft cloth and warm soapy water or a small amount of mild detergent if required.
Both are well-known for their durability, but the biggest distinction between the two is how the fabric is held in place in the side channels or runners and how it sustains in wind tunnel conditions. For a summary, see the table below.

How is the fabric held tight? |
Zipscreen use a single sided zip named z-Lock. The z-Lock is welded on one side of the fabric. The z-LOCK side-tensioning system uses a one-of-a kind, Japanese-made zip, which fits perfectly into the slim side channels and stays hidden from view. |
The blind fabric is held into the track using Cordura tape commonly known as Kedar. In this instance the Kedar is fixed to the blind material through high frequency welding to create a strong join. |

For commercial applications, and in areas prone to high winds, we recommend a greater number of fixings to the mounting structure. It is recommended that stainless steel rivets be utilised between the track and channel. |
From the table above ZipScreen withstood a higher wind load, however both manufacturers recommend to raise their shading system when winds exceed 50km/hr as a precaution and void warranty.
In addition aesthetically, the ZipScreen design is a more elegant and stylish shade system with its slim line cassette and side channels than Ziptrak.
