Care instructions for Awnings.
New awnings are recommended to be fully drawn down for 2-4 days to allow the fabric to relax and tighten, eliminating wrinkles.
For optimal performance and longevity of your new Mesh or Canvas awning, follow these guidelines:
1. Initial Setup:
- IMPORTANT: Fully extend the new awning and leave it in the down position for 2 to 4 days.
- This allows the canvas to condition, meaning the fabric will relax and the construction will tighten, eliminating any waviness or wrinkles.
2. Ongoing Maintenance:
- Periodically, fully extend the awning to maintain its conditioned state.
- DO NOT leave awnings rolled up or partially open for extended periods of time:
Awning fabrics contracts (stretch/shrink) in changing weather conditions which causes wrinkling, stretching, and scrunching when left rolled up for extended periods. This will affect the overall look, leave indentations/scrunching of the fabric and affect the functionality of the awning.
- DO NOT roll up your awnings when wet. If rolled up wet, open them to dry as soon as possible to prevent mildew, wrinkling, stretching, and scrunching.
- DO NOT leave your awnings down during high wind and stormy conditions.
3. Maximize the lifespan of your awnings
Care instructions for Awnings: follow these additional care tips:
- Clean the canvas once or twice a year, or more frequently if exposed to heavy pollutants.
- Brush dry fabric regularly with a soft brush or broom.
- Occasionally hose with cold water but avoid brushing and hosing simultaneously to prevent abrasion.
- Remove bird droppings, earth, sand, and vegetable matter promptly.
- Do not use soaps, detergents, cleaning fluids, or insecticides.
- Keep petrol, kerosene, and similar fluids away from the awning.
- Do not roll up awnings when wet. If rolled up wet, open them to dry as soon as possible to prevent mildew.
- Regular cleaning helps prevent mildew, especially in areas with high moisture.
- Brush off mildew spots before they become attached.
